Apprenticeships

The charitable branch of MK Dons is investing in apprenticeships to shine a light on its work in the community, encouraging more locals to sign up for the opportunities it provides.

The MK Dons Sport and Education Trust has taken on a Level 3 Content Creator apprentice to help it increase its community visibility through social media and blogs.

The SET engages in a wide range of work in Milton Keynes, reaching around 50,000 people each year. From working in schools to running dementia and refugee football sessions, it works with the full breadth of the Milton Keynes community to provide opportunities for all.

As well as increasing visibility in the community, the apprentice will also help raise awareness of the charity amongst potential funders and help the SET access new opportunities.

Hannah Bladen, Head of Operations, worries about locals missing out on opportunities because they don’t realise everything that’s on offer.

“Our charity does so much fantastic work in the community, but without someone around whose job it is to shout about those things, so much gets missed or forgotten.

“An apprentice will be such a valuable addition to our team because they will be able to showcase all the fantastic work we do and educate members of our community on the opportunities which are available to them.”

The SET will be working with Ignite for its first foray into apprenticeships.

For Hannah, Ignite was the natural choice when it came to seeking out the perfect apprenticeship provider. “Ignite has a proven track record of providing excellent service. They have a fantastic reputation, longevity in the marketplace, and credibility.

“I know the Ignite team cares deeply about the success of the apprentices they support, and they uphold the very highest standards.”

Justin Merritt, Ignite Training CEO, said apprenticeships are valuable across a range of sectors and roles, with the Content Creator course proving especially popular.

“We’re pleased to be working with the MK Dons Sport and Education Trust to provide it with all the support it needs. Apprentices can be of particular value to charities, because employing them is cost effective whilst also bringing in fantastic skills.

“Working with an apprentice is a good way to add extra capacity to a team, and to shape raw talent into the exact member of staff that is required.

“Earning whilst learning also gives people the opportunity to take their careers to the next step and to grow job satisfaction.

“We work with apprentices across a range of sectors to support them in their learning and ensure they get the most out of their courses. There’s a common misconception that apprenticeships are only for young people working in a small range of jobs, but this couldn’t be further from the truth.”
